A budget is not a punishment and it is not a diet. It is simply a plan for money you already have — deciding where your dollars go before the month spends them for you.
Every month has the same three parts: money coming in (your pay), money that must go out (rent, power, car, minimum debt payments), and whatever is left. A budget just writes those three things down so the last part stops being a surprise.
